Serial number (IMEI)
Production date (MM/YY)
Purchase date (MM/YY) You can only enter the date once.
Date of last repair (0000=No repair)
Transfer user data to another Nokia phone via Infra-Red
Clock Stopping
To check weather your SIM Card supports clock stopping type-
*#746025625# (*#SIM0CLOCK# )

Revealing the Headphone and Car-Kit menus
Please note that if you do these next tricks, the new menus can't be erased without retoring the factory default settings. To do these tricks you need to short-circuit the pins on the bottom of the phone next to where you plug in you charger.

1. To activate the "Headset" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "3" and "4". After a short time the word "Headset" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-6 is now enabled.
2. To activate the "Car" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "4" and "5". After a short time the word "Car" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-7 is now enabled.

THE REBOOT TRICK
This should work on all software versions of the 6110.
1. Go to the Calendar (Menu-8)
2. Make a note or reminder.
3. Enter some text into the edit box.
4. Hold "Clear" until the whole text is cleared, then press "Back".
5. Press "0". The main screen will now be showing but a space appears on the screen. (you can't see it)
6. Enter 4 digits (e.g. 1234).
7. Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the left side of the numbers and the space (Down arrow twice).
8. Now enter 6 digits and press the call button.

Wait for a few seconds, the screen should start to flash and reboots. It should alsowork on other menus like the "Profiles" menu.

EFR CALL QUALITY
To activate EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) Enter the code-
*3370#
This improves call quality but decreases batterylife by about 5%
To deactivate it, Enter the code-
#3370#

THE JAMES BOND TRICK
If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

NETWORK MONITOR
There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.
Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
Take apart the phone.
De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
The Network Monitor gives you the following information.

Carrier number
MS RX Level in DBM
Received signal quality
MS TX power level
C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection) . The range is -99 to 99.
RTL (Radio link timeout).
Timeslot
Indication of the transmitter status
Information on the Network parameters.
TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).
Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).
MCC (Mobile country code)
MCN (Mobile network code)
LAC (Location area code)
Ciphering (On/Off)
Hopping (On/Off)
DTX (On/Off)
Discard cell barred information

CHECK SIM-LOCK
Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.
COUNTRY-LOCK
NETWORK-LOCK
PROVIDER-LOCK
SIMCARD-LOCK
The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is

#PW+(MASTERCODE) +(Y)#
# = DOUBLE-CROSS
W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES
P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES
+ = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES
MASTERCODE = 1234567890
Y = NUMBER 1 TO 4
The master code is a secret code. The code has 10 digits, To read out the sim-lock status you can enter every combination you want!
"Y" Shows the status of the network-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4". The "4" is for the sim-card lock.

SIM-LOCK CHECKS
#PW+1234567890+ 1# = GIVES PROVIDER-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+ 2# = GIVES NETWORK-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+ 3# = GIVES COUNTRY-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+ 4# = GIVES SIM-CARD-LOCK STATUS.

Sun signs and Software professionals

Aries - March 21 - April 19

The software professionals belonging to this sign are hard working and

sincere. Though they second the Taureans in hard work, they are intelligent in

their approach. They tend to display strong leadership, and their extroverted

and assertive natures let them lead the new cycle eagerly. They have humour

in their programming style and deepest concern for finishing a project. They

are dynamic and active, as befits the beginning of any project cycle. As long

as the boss gives them work and good salary, they are happy. If the

organization is not doing good, they are the first to know about it and they exit

immediately.

Taurus - April 20 - May 20

The most hard working people of all the signs. They are among the strongest

Signs when it comes to getting things done because of their reliable

persistence in moving toward completion of projects. On the other hand, they

can be very stubborn and argumentative. Though they are clumsy at their

work, they get it done. They show the deepest respect to their bosses but

hate them when they are ordered. They can work just on any platform and

language given small amount of learning time. They can withstand failure on

any projects but they undergo a little depression. They do not bother how the

organization is doing as long as they get good work and good salary.

They accommodate changes very easily.

Gemini - May 21 - June 21

These also flirt here. They talk more than what they know and form very bad

programmers. They are fascinated with gathering as much information as

possible, and their facility as communicators - both written and verbal - arises

from this need. They see the problem earlier than any other Sign can. They are

adaptable and able to tackle multiple tasks simultaneously, and they know

how to reason with people, but they may lack follow-through or seem

ungrateful. They tend to use management jargon with young people around

them. They feel jealous when somebody in their group knows more and

achieves more than them. They get their job done by hook or by crook. They

don't mind getting the work done through somebody and once they get it done

they claim the title. They show deep respect for people who help them. They

change jobs easily and they fare very well in interviews. Geminis cannot be

trusted for more than a year. They are very impractical and cannot get along

well with practical signs like Aries, Taurus.

Cancer - June 22 - July 22

The most emotional of all signs does posses the management skill more than

that of a programmer. They can manage projects and they have appreciation

for good software professionals. Though they themselves do not form good

software professionals, they motivate/demotivate their fellow people. They

can argue on any matter easily and win over it either through a practical

approach or emotionally. They play intelligently when given a task. They also,

like Gemini, get the work done through colleagues once they know they are

not capable. They are very honest and if they can't do a job they will tell you

straight in the face. They feel embarrassed when they feel they are unable to

do, when a colleague can do it easily. They are also jealous when they see

people growing around them. They try hard to be on par with everybody else.

They stay for a long time in a company only if they get more respect than what

they deserve.

Leo - July 23 - August 23

The creative software professionals. They know how what works and how to

get it done in the shortest time. They show their flamboyance in whatever

work they do. Though most Leos don't prefer Software, the ones that are in

would not like to be in it. They would prefer to be outside where they can

show other talents which they posses. Leos may be arrogant or egotistical,

but they are good organizers and tend to be popular and even inspiring. Leos

tend to be self-centered and more concerned with personal popularity rather

than group goals and sharing of ideas. Despite their tendency to patronizingly

interfere in others' plans, they are leaders, confident and dignified. Despite

their tendency toward bossiness, the natural leadership of people born under

Leo and their administrative prowess helps ensure that their projects are

successful. As leaders, Leos are decisive and direct, optimistic that they will

succeed. Sometimes they exaggerate problems and overreact to stumbling

blocks, but generally they are positive and their natural pride and the stubborn

streak keeps them from giving up. They can be demanding leaders, but they

are also generous. Leos could not be generalized as far as their personal

behavior goes. Its up to you to know whether they can be trusted.

Virgo - August 24 - September 22

Virgo, the sharing mind. They let out whatever they know to others. They

grow in a organization easily. Virgo brings their skills and talents together for

the good of others. Virgo are industrious and efficient when working for a good

cause. They are shy and nervous when they want to say something of

importance though. They are unable to demonstrate that they know. But they

are practical and logical, and they're skilled at seeing all sides of a situation.

Virgos tend to be about smaller-scale projects and individuals. They are very

good at understanding what people are saying beneath the surface words of

their communication. Detailed and precise, people born under Virgo tend to be

neat and exacting, but sometimes petty and overly fussy. At the other end of

the scale, some Virgos can be sloppy. They are reliable, practical, and diligent,

but they can sometimes seem picky or over-critical to people who aren't as

discriminating as they are.The don't tend to do well in projects that require

many interactions and people involvement. Though there are lot

contradictions, the summary is that they can be good at things that are small

given a lot of time for implementation. They may worry too much about small

details, and they can seem demanding and critical. Their nature and attention

to duty can seem like nit-picking pettiness if the people around them don't

understand Virgo's desire perfection.

Libra - September 23 - October 22

Best people to work with in large scale project activity. They form the best

middle level co-ordinators in projects and bring harmony amongst all. They try

to bring justice but can be persuaded by anybody to any side They don't have

a clear balance in what they do. But when they are given a schedule you can

be sure that a Libran will succeed in that. They are very demanding as far as

money goes. Its important that a Libran never gets bored, because if he is so,

he is out of everything. He will not do a single task when his mood is off.

Libra's intellectual orientation to the world around them makes them skilled at

communication and reasoning, and their intelligence combines with their

interest in other people to become an intellectual explorer of the people

around them. Because their efforts are mentally rather than emotionally

motivated, Librans tend to be very judicial; they are good at diplomacy and

compromise. Because they are generally reluctant to face confrontation,

people born under Libra learn to be persuasive, courteous, and adaptable. But

this may also make them seem cold and unemotional or manipulative They are

team workers, skilled at cooperative action, but they can also be self-doubting.

They are trustworthy for long times as long as they have a good working

atmosphere.

Scorpio - October 23 - November 21

The most intuitive software professionals. They do not like to be controlled by

others and often tend to be the bosses even if they aren't one. If things go

wrong they just quit. If a project doesn't seem to go well and they are in a

tight spot they just abscond and never come back. But if they make their mind

( 8% of the Scorpios they tend to be stubborn, refusing to give up when others

have long since gotten bored and abandoned a project, and getting things

done when no one else thought it possible. They have their own schedule and

they work on it. They are not adaptable to group situations and tend to be

what they are. They are very secretive in what ever they do. They are highly

revengeful and will strike when somebody steps in their way. But most

Scorpios are misunderstood. They try to know things around them and are the

first to be aware of the new technologies. They enjoy competition and they

never settle for something less then best. They are trustworthy as long as

they have work and happy and they have somebody in the management to

care of them. But when things go bad the Scorpios can never be trusted,

better to lay him off right away if you think he is playing bad.

Sagittarius - November 22 - December 21

The learned Software professional. They learn more than what is required in

this field and are the most adaptable folks. They really care little for any

project plans and know how to get it changed. Their main desire is freedom in

whatever they do. Given a free hand, they do best. They are less co-operative

in groups and tend to be very pushy. They talk too much before they think and

always fail at critical times. They are eager in getting things started and they

jump so quickly and if they fail they fail quickly too. They like one-to-one

challenges and are driven away by the group when they try blunt talk. They

come back to the group after a fight, sulking but needing. They have great

love for knowledge. They are trustworthy as long as they think that they are

learning in the current organization. They would go away in a flash if they feel

that they can learn more elsewhere.

Capricorn - December 22 - January 19

Capricorns are practical and over ambitious. The are down to earth when they

want to get things completed. They are practical, realistic, and cautious when

they schedule something. They have the highest determination for success,

they view each project as a block for their success and are less bothered

about the project itself. They can also be rigid and unforgiving when others

stand in their way. Their organizational ability combines with their diligence to

help them achieve, but they can be narrow-minded and over-critical of people

not as ambitious as they are. Capricorns would work hard and hard just for

their personal success and not for their satisfaction, which is just the

opposite in case of a Taurus. They are dependable and serious, never giving

up on their goals. Other people may see their ambition as domineering or a

reflection of egotism, but they are patient and purposeful when working

toward what they want. Sometimes they may be overly critical, even bossy,

but this is due to their strong desire to achieve their goals and not to a desire

to be rude.

Aquarius - January 20 - February 18

Hard working, and get things done just for the organization. They are very

good at group projects and form good co-ordinators. They can be opinionated,

and they work hard to bring their ideas to fruition, stubbornly refusing to give

up their causes. They get to know the technology around them and would

discuss with the people around. But since they stick to what ever they think is

right sometimes this makes them go away from the group and they keep aloof.

The are trustworthy and would stick on for a long time given the right kind of

people around them.

Pisces - February 19 - March 20

The people who are just meant to work only in group. They are selfless and do

it as you require. They most important thing to be put in them is the "focus"

since they get out doing something when they lose interest. All signs take

advantage of a Pisces for their work because they would like to make use of

his abilities. Though they are not intellectuals they are very broad minded and

good thinkers. Very trustworthy as long as they are not abused too often

LPG cylinders and their expiry dates

Have U ever heard about LPG gas cylinder's expire date. I also didn't know.

How to find LPG cylinder's expiry date ?

Very important information.

Most of us do not know this. I came to know today from the gas stockiest, because an accident occurred.

Do you know that there is an expiry date (physical life) for LPG cylinders?

Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents. In this regard please be cautious at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from the Vendor.

Here is how we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders:

On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded alpha numerically as follows A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this e.g. D06.

The alphabets stand for quarters -
A for March (First Qtr),
B for June (Second Qtr),
C for Sept (Third Qtr), &
D for December (FourthQtr).
The digits stand for the year till it is valid.
Hence D06 would mean December qtr of 2006.

Share this message with everyone you know, UR kind cooperation will
Save the life of many people and create awareness among the public.

Dont be judgemental!

2 tough questions.

Are you ready?

one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis,

would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before looking at the
response for this one.

Question 2:
It is time to elect a new world leader, and only
your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three

Candidate A.
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults

Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion
question: If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before
judging someone.

All about numbers

The numbers we all use (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) are known as "arabic" numbers to distinguish them from the "Roman Numerals" (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, etc). Actually the arabs popularized these numbers but they were originally used by the early phonecian traders to count and keep track of their trading accounts.

Have you ever thought why ........ 1 means "one", and 2 means "two"? The roman numerals are easy to understand but what was the logic behind the phonecian numbers?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's all about angles !
It's the number of angles. If one writes the numbers down (see below) on a piece of paper in their older forms, one quickly sees why. I have marked the angles with "o"s.

No 1 has one angle.
No 2 has two angles.
No 3 has three angles.
etc.

and "O" has no angles

Interesting, isn't it?
An ancient phonecian manuscript explains this and I thought it to be fascinating.

What is important?.. Is it Shilpa Shetty?

So behold we have another WORLD Crisis….Coz poor Shilpa Shetty is being victimized on the Oh-So-classy Big Brother…..in simpler words for all you not-so-alarmed people out there…she is being Racially discriminated against …. Oh-the-disaster !!!! what will we do??? How will we survive??? HELP!!

So this was the top story of the week.. hell it is so important that this can be easily said to the top story of the year…!!! And its only January

Let me give you a glimpse of all the other not-so-important stories that we are constantly bombarded with

Dafur – 400,000 people dead

- This is termed as one of the most gruesome periods in the region. 400,000 dead, and countless displaced. Have you heard?? Thousands of orphaned children, and incidents of rape and murder are a common site.

In the name of ethnic cleansing, Arab militiamen, known as the Janjaweed, are massacering the people of Dafur. The Janjaweed have terrorized the Darfur region by raping women, burning villages, killing Muslim religious leaders, destroying mosques, ruining food stocks, and murdering men women and children alike.

But hey this is not as horrfying as SHILPA SHETTY being called a 'PAKI'……Save Shetty ….screw Dafur…its not that Important.

Iraq – Almost a civil war – Yeah here is another not-so-important piece of news that we hear about everyday. According to the site http://www.iraqbodycount.org/ around 60,00 Iraqis are dead, some wonderful stats can be found also on http://www.icasualties.org/oif/

The Sunnis kill the Shias, who kill the Sunnis back, till each of them have bodies piled up in stacks, and blood everywhere, dismembered parts lying for the dogs and other scavengers to find. In this wonderful situation also throw in the inherent hatered for Kurds and wht you have my friends is present day Iraq.

And to top it all off, the US is planning to deploy 20,000 more troops to the region for sacrifice (oops!!)…oh I mean to stabilize the region.

But SHILPA SHETTY being called a DOG…How dare they!!!!...hey media…stop boring us with Iraq…tell us more about the DOG incident

India – Reservation Issue – So the bill has been passed, and the polititians have included the Creamy layer, just to ensure that there is no doubt left in our minds as to who exactly this reservation policy is to benefit.

Thousands of students whose voice of reason was met with brutal police force stand witness to exaclty how deaf our political system has become to the real isssues faced by a citizen.

It works in Tamilnadu they say 69% reservation!! So why cannot 50% work in the country???? In Tamilnadu they count 80% of the population as Minority !! so the 20% so-called-upper class are still Majority over the 80% minority???? Hmmm

So now that the bill has been passed and merit rendered useless, we can rejoice coz the foundation has been laid for mediocracy

Still this is not as important as SHILPA SHETTY being called a FAKE….she and fake…NEVER…poor thing!

Global Warming – Doomsday is approaching -

So the Ice shelves are melting, a gigantic piece the size of 11,000 football fields, just broke away from the Canadian mainland in record time. The Artic Ice has shrunk by 250 million acres.

60,000 people die every year from the effects of global warming, from malaria to malnutrition, children in developing nations seemingly the most vulnerable. These numbers could almost double by 2020. Severe weather patters emerging all around the globe, Floods in Thailand, Hurricanes in America, Typhoons in the East. Hundreds and thousands of people without food water or shelter, and so many on the other extreme living in conditions of drought

Not Important!!! What is important is that SHILPA SHETTY is crying…!!! God I cant stand it!!

So shrug aside the bodies found in the Nithari connection, the many children molested and killed; But please cover every precious drop that cascade down SHILPA SHETTY's cheeks.

Don't tell me about the million of children who are financially exploited as labor, denied and education and robbed of their childhood. But do tell me how hurt SHILPA SHETTY was when the housemates rejected her Chicken

Don't tell me about the about the father and mother who cannot afford to spend time with their kids coz they barely can afford to survive on both their salaries…But please publicize the measly 3 Crores that SHILPA SHETTY is getting paid to go thru this torture . (Somebody please start a petition to pay that poor girl atleast 15-20 Crores…she deserves better)

Shilpa is constantly taunted, because she has SERVANTS, she is taunted about her accent. But thank god the Indian government has taken up the issue….how could they have been blind to the utmost important issue for so long…I demand answers!!!

And………..I rest my Case!!!!

'Millionaire' Contestant Makes Worst Use Of Lifelines Ever

Kathy Evans, the single dumbest contestant to ever get on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

NEW YORK – Former Adelaide resident Kathy Evans brought humiliation to her friends and family Tuesday when she set a new standard for stupidity with her appearance on the popular TV show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."

It seems that Evans, a 32-year-old wife and mother of two who follows the Adelaide Crows in the AFL, got stuck on the first question, and proceeded to make what fans of the show are dubbing "the absolute worst use of lifelines ever."

After being introduced to the show's host Meredith Vieira, Evans assured her that she was ready to play, whereupon she was posed with an extremely easy $100 question. The question was:

"Which of the following is the largest?"
A) A Peanut
B) An Elephant
C) The Moon
D) Hey, who you calling large?

Immediately Mrs. Evans was struck with an all consuming panic as she realized that this was a question to which she did not readily know the answer.

"Hmm, oh boy, that's a toughie," said Evans, as Vieira did her level best to hide her disbelief and disgust. "I mean, I'm sure I've heard of some of these things before, but I have no idea how large they would be."

Evans made the decision to use the first of her three lifelines, the 50/50. Answers A and D were removed, leaving her to decide which was bigger, an elephant or the moon. However, faced with an incredibly easy question, Evans still remained unsure.

"Oh! It removed the two I was leaning towards!" exclaimed Evans. "Darn. I think I better phone a friend."

Using the second of her two lifelines on the first question, Mrs. Evans asked to be connected with her friend Betsy, who is an office assistant.

"Hi Betsy! How are you? This is Kathy! I'm on TV!" said Evans, wasting the first seven seconds of her call. "Ok, I got an important question. Which of the following is the largest? B, an elephant, or C, the moon. 15 seconds hun."

Betsy quickly replied that the answer was C, the moon. Evans proceeded to argue with her friend for the remaining ten seconds.

"Come on Betsy, are you sure?" said Evans. "How sure are you? Puh, that can't be it."

To everyone's astonishment, the moronic Evans declined to take her friend's advice and pick 'The Moon.'

"I just don't know if I can trust Betsy. She's not all that bright. So I think I'd like to ask the audience," said Evans.

Asked to vote on the correct answer, the audience returned 98% in favor of answer C, 'The Moon.' Having used up all her lifelines, Evans then made the dumbest choice of her life.

"Wow, seems like everybody is against what I'm thinking," said the too-stupid-to-live Evans. "But you know, sometimes you just got to go with your gut. So, let's see. For which is larger, an elephant or the moon, I'm going to have to go with B, an elephant. Final answer."
Evans sat before the dumbfounded audience, the only one waiting with bated breath, and was told that she was wrong, and that the answer was in fact, C, 'The Moon.'

Are Indians Dumb?

'The whole process where people get an idea and put together a team, raise the capital, create a product and mainstream it -- that can only be done in the US. It can't be done sitting in India. The Indian part of the equation is to help these innovative US companies bring their products to the market quicker, cheaper and better, which increases the innovative cycle there. It is a complementarity we need to enhance.'

-- Nandan Nilekani, CEO, Infosys, quoted in The New York Times, March 7, 2004.

Translated into plain English, this means 'Indians lack creativity and cannot come up with the ideas to create and sell a product. Indians can only do the backend slog work that helps US companies create and sell their products.'

How about this?

ISRO -- the Indian Space Research Organisation -- is the result of Dr Vikram Sarabhai's vision. Its first rocket, like the one in the picture, was launched 40 years ago. Over the past 40 years, a multi-disciplinary group of electronics, mechanical, electrical, civil and chemical engineers has designed and built 32 satellites and three generations of launch vehicles culminating in the GSLV.

This was done with almost totally indigenous R&D, battling US sanctions. Each time that a technology or component was unavailable, ISRO went ahead and developed it on its own. ISRO's satellites help India in telecom, television broadcasting, weather forecasting, disaster warning, telemedicine, education and fishery. Technologies in areas as diverse as optics and artificial limb manufacture have been developed and transferred to Indian industry.

Jamsetji Tata wanted to make textiles in Nagpur in the 1800s with the cotton grown there. Nagpur had no textile industry then, and in Manchester Jamsetji was told that Nagpur's weather was not suitable as it was too dry. He said, 'Alright, I will bring the Manchester weather to Nagpur.' He imported humidifiers and started India's first textile mill in 1874.

When Jamshetji started the Tata Iron and Steel Company and wanted to export steel rails to Britain, a Britisher called Sir Frederick Upcourt said, 'Do you mean to say that Tatas propose to make steel rails to British specifications? I will undertake to eat every pound of rail that they make, if they do that.' The Tatas did manage to make steel rails and export them to Britain. Upcourt must have developed a massive case of indigestion). In World War II British tanks were called Tatanagars because the steel was made in Tatanagar.

To paraphrase Nilekani, Vikram Sarabhai and Jamsetji Tata got an idea, put together a team, raised the capital, created a product, and mainstreamed it. They did it sitting in India, 40 years and 125 years ago respectively, when India's technical capabilities were far less than they are now.

So we now have two Indias.

One has a severe inferiority complex and is unwilling to do anything creative because it thinks it is incapable of it. It thinks being called the back office of the world is the ultimate compliment, missing the implied insult in the word back. It thinks its ultimate destiny is to do all the slog work of the world.

The other is confident about its capability, dreams big dreams, then goes ahead and translates the dreams into reality. There are innumerable success stories like ISRO and Tata Steel in India today, in manufacturing, electronic hardware, pharmaceuticals, software, fashion design, or any area that you can think of. The problem is that these are not highlighted. Creative individuals and organisations who are developing products or technologies with a lasting impact are unsung heroes.

To be a hero in India today you just have to make a lot of immediate money. Creativity is irrelevant, and maybe dreamers like Vikram Sarabhai and Jamsetji Tata would be considered fools.

When you dream a big dream, maybe a small part of it gets translated into reality. If you do not dream at all, what do you finally get in reality? An entrepreneur must have self-confidence bordering on arrogance. Why is it that this confidence is missing in the heads of India's biggest software companies?

Back to the Raj?

Every Indian child's history textbook says something to this effect: 'During the British Raj we exported cheap raw material to Britain, then imported the finished products at a much higher price. We were paying for the value addition done in Britain, and the Raj prevented us from doing the value addition here. We were being exploited by the British.' The IT industry is considered to be India's biggest success story, but in reality 99% of it involves the export of cheap (human) raw material and the import of expensive finished products.

We are happy if Microsoft starts a development centre in India and employs a couple of thousand people. We develop the software modules that go into Microsoft Windows XP at a low price, and then pay through our noses to import the finished Windows XP.

There is no British Raj to exploit us today, so what prevents us from doing the big value addition here now instead of exporting cheap man days? Why are we exploiting ourselves? The standard argument is that the software industry is evolving, and will 'move up the value chain.' There is, however, no evidence of any motion up the value chain. Some of the biggest IT companies are on the contrary regressing into BPOs. Everyone is happy making a lot of money today, and there is no thought of tomorrow.

Another argument goes: 'Oh, but see how much foreign exchange the IT industry is earning for the country.' Agreed, we are making a lot of money selling our time, but we would be making many times this amount selling our creativity through technologies, designs or finished products.

Current government policies, value systems and the education system are creating a whole generation of people who believe they are second class professionals unfit to do anything creative. During the Raj the British convinced us we were fit to only produce raw material and not finished goods. They'd be proud of us now -- we've learnt the lesson very well and are now convincing successive generations too.

In today's India Jamsetji would probably have said to Frederick Upcourt, 'Maybe you have a point and I'm taking a big risk trying to make steel in this Third World country. I think I'll just sell you the iron ore from my Noamundi mines. Besides, I can start selling you the ore from next month itself, while it will take me 5 years to build the steel plant and start making money.'

So are we really dumb?

A century ago, Jamsetji Tata took some foreign visitors to the Majestic Hotel in Mumbai but was denied entrance because he was an Indian. Jamsetji simply resolved to build a hotel that was even finer, and which would not discriminate against people on the basis of colour or race. Today when we lose software outsourcing contracts and get thrown out of the US, we go back and beg to be allowed back in instead of fighting back by being more creative than them.

We need drastic changes in the education system and in government policies to reward creativity and value addition. Changes that produce creative people, visionaries, dreamers, people with guts, like Vikram Sarabhai and Jamsetji Tata.

We are definitely not dumb. We just have to stop thinking that we are.

Computational complexity theory

P versus NP

Description:
P is the class of problems whose solution
can be found in polynomial time. NP is the class of
problems whose solution can be verified in polynomial
time. Naturally, any problem in P is also in NP. The P
versus NP question is whether NP is in P, hence the
classes are equal. One can see the question as a
specific case of the problem in proving lower bounds
for computational problems.

Importance:
If the classes are equal then we can solve
many problems that are currently considered
intractable. If they are not, then NP-complete
problems are problems that are provably hard.
Current conjecture: Though the question is far
from being settled, it seems that the classes are
different.

Cryptography

Do one-way functions exist?

Description:
One-way functions are functions that are
easy to compute but hard to invert. Some people
conjecture that computing discrete logarithm and
inverting RSA are one-way functions.

Importance:
If one-way functions exist then public key
cryptography is possible. Their existence would also
imply that many complexity classes are not learnable,
and that P is not NP.
Current conjecture: Most researchers conjecture
that one-way functions exist but haven't yet proven
it...

High performance computing

To what degree can one speed up a computation?

Description:
Although the speedup theorem from
computability theory shows that any computation can be
sped up by any desired constant degree, there is no
feasible method of gaining such a speedup. It is
needed to know what are the techniques and bounds on
speedup in various architectures - a single processor,
grid, distributed network, etc.

Importance:
The speed of computation is the limit to
the problems that we can solve.

Current conjecture:
Amdahl's law is a partial answer to the
question.

How can one build a cluster of N nodes?

Description:
As the number of computers in a cluster
rises, the probability of failure in some of the
computers rises too. At some point, the mean time
between failures is shorter than the recovery and
checkpoint times. In such a case, different algorithms
and architectures might be needed in order to gain
more computing power. It is possible that the higher
probability of failure will bound the rate of
increased power.

Importance:
Clusters are a powerful method of gaining
computation power. Therefore, bounds on the cluster
size are currently bounds on computational power.

What is an optimal UET scheduling algorithm for 3
processors with precedence constraints?

Description:
A unit-execution-time (UET) scheduling
problem contains tasks all with identical length. When
there are precedence constraints then there is a
directed graph of dependencies between the UET tasks.
To start a task all its direct predecessors must first
be completed. Two optimal algorithms are known for UET
task systems on 2 processors

Importance:
This problem is fundamentally equivalent
to scheduling instructions in a superscaler computer,
and to scheduling parallel tasks systems optimally in
a multiprocessor with 3 processors. The problem is
NP-complete for arbitrary m, but complexity for fixed
m > 2 is unknown.

Unsolved problems in software engineering

There is not a canonical list of unsolved problems
in software engineering; however, there are the
following issues:

Software Engineering Project Management

* List of antipatterns, which might be thought of
as statements of poor practice, in contradistinction
to the list of design patterns
* Poorly predictable relationship of project
duration to program functionality
* Systematic detection of software defects
* Statistical tendency of project to run behind
schedule and over-budget
* Adding additional manpower to a lagging software
project (especially in later parts of the project) may
actually cause further schedule slippage due to
overhead experienced during the integration of new
employees. See The Mythical Man-Month.

Programming Complexity

* Current complexity of most programming
languages, in general
* Current complexity of most applications, to the
extent that companies fail when programmers leave, if
those companies have no one else who understands what
the programmers have done.

Standards (software)

* Non-standard implementation of standards or
specifications by multiple organizations result in a
requirement for implementation specific code and
special case exceptions as a necessity for
cross-platform interoperability. Notable modern
examples include web browser compatibility and
web-services interoperability.
* Arbitrariness of most software concepts, which
is related to historical hardware and software
implementation, lack of common standards worldwide,
and economic pressures.

Free incoming for life?

'Incoming free for lifetime' is the latest mantra of telecom service providers in India. The launch of prepaid cards with lifetime validity for incoming calls is just another attempt to chain ! customers to a single service provider for life!

In India, about 78 per cent of the mobile users are prepaid cardholders and this segment is growing at a very fast pace. And telecom operators are now wooing this segment with newer offers.

According to operators, the advantage of this scheme is that a prepaid user can continue to receive incoming calls 'for life' even after the recharge period is over, as against the current system of restricted validity, based on the value of the recharge package.

But will the user actually get incoming calls 'free for life'? Or is there a catch?

Well, this move by the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) service providers is close on the heels of the 'Non-Stop Mobile' scheme launched by Tata Teleservices recently, which allows a customer to receive calls for two years without buying a recharge voucher. This scheme has turned out to be a big hit.

New users are often attracted to the longest validity period offers and these schemes aim to hook a good majority of new subscribers.

Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India officials have raised several doubts on the viability of these schemes. Trai officials would be examining all the aspects of the schemes and would take necessary steps if required. Trai has sought details on the lifetime validity schemes from all the service providers.

At a meeting held on January 12, Trai said that ! lifetime validity tariff plans raise the following issues:

· Long-term viability and sustainability of these plans.

· Whether lifetime can exceed the balance licence period of the operators and if not, would the plans vary in their validity duration.

What will happen to the plans if the traffic patterns and Interconnect User Charges regime changes substantially, and the matter of protection of interest of consumers who are subscribing to the lifetime tariff plan.

Trai expects the final decision in this regard would be taken by February 2006.

So what does 'incoming free for lifetime' actually mean?

First and foremost, it is not 'free for life' as all the service providers specify that the user must recharge every six months to stay mobile! And more importantly, every call you make will be more expensive than the normal prepaid call charge. So there goes the 'free' claim ! out of the window.

Here's a look at the various plans on offer.

The Airtel offer

Airtel was the first to announce the lifetime validity for incoming calls scheme from among the GSM players. An Airtel mobile user will have to pay Rs 999 to avail of the new scheme, following which the user can receive incoming calls 'free for a lifetime' on the condition that the user recharges the card once every 6 months.

The call charges are much higher than normal charges.

According to Airtel, the lifetime prepaid card also offers the user full talk time on every future recharge of any denomination (service tax is of course deducted on cards of any value). The call rates are Rs 1.99 for all local calls and Rs 2.99 for all STD calls.

Hutch's Chalta Rahe!

Hutch's lifetime card matches the Airtel rate of Rs 999.

The calls charges are at par with Airtel. The rates are: Rs 1.99/minute for all local calls and Rs 2.99/minute for all STD calls. This card of Rs 999 gives you a talk time of just Rs 25. Hutch also offers full talk time on all future rechar! ges and but customers will need to recharge with at least a minimum available recharge of Rs 10 once every 6 months to stay mobile.

This is what the Hutch Website states:

· Validity for lifetime (for incoming calls) is applicable as per license period in each circle and is subject to change in case any regulatory condition changes in the future.

· Connection will be permanently deactivated if no recharge happens for any continuous period of 6 months.

MTNL's Jeevan Sathi

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd's Jeevan Sathi is available for Rs 900. While the card costs Rs 900, the talk time value is only Rs 100. However, MTNL promises full talk time on future recharge.

'Full talk time' is another misnomer. Taxes are always deducted from even the Rs 10 'chhota' recharge of Hutch!

MTNL has also introduced a recharge card of Rs 2,650 with three-year validity in the same segment. The call charges of Rs 2,650 recharge coupon are 90 paise a minute for a local call within MTNL GSM network (Trump-to-Trump or Dolphin) and for all mobile other networks, it is Rs 1.50 and STD at Rs 2.40 a minute across the networks.

Idea Cellular's lifelong offer

Idea Cellular has taken the validity card scheme to the post-paid subscribers as well. Under its lifelong offer, postpaid customers will not have to pay any monthly rental for life, this can be availed by just paying a one-time amount of Rs 995 and prepaid customers can avail lifelong validity on a recharge of Rs 995 and get Rs 25 talk time.

It will charge 99 paise per! minute for mobile-to-mobile local calls, 99 paise per 30 seconds for other local and STD calls, it said.

Under the prepaid lifelong tariff, the company will charge Rs 1.99 for calls for one minute, while STD calls would be charged Rs 2.99 paise per minute, it said.

Idea Cellular has a! lso introduced 'I-Power prepaid vouchers' under two schemes, with one package offering a three-year validity and a talk time of Rs 150 for Rs 2,999, and the other offering a 2-year validity and a talk time of Rs 100 for Rs 1,199.

Reliance Infocomm's lifetime gift

The lifetime validity prepaid voucher costs Rs 995. This has a talk time of Rs 50. The user will have the option to choose a range of prepaid vouchers and tariff plans as per his requirement.

If the user expects high outgoing calls in a particular month, he can use Rs 430 voucher and get the benefit of lower calling rates (Rs 430 voucher offers night calling to another RIM number for free and day calling at 40 paise per minute within the state), according to the company statement.

Recharge coupons are available from Rs 10 and the calls are charged at Rs 1.99 for a local call and Rs 2.99 for all other calls in India. Also on offer is a 'Marathon SMS Pack' worth Rs 180, through which 18,000 SMSes can be sent over six months.

Wait till February!

Essentially, the schemes by all the companies are valid only if the user recharges once in six months. With Trai raising doubts over the viability of these plans, it would be wise to wait till the final verdict is out in February. It is also advisable to seek detailed information on any scheme before going for it.

Ideally, customer! s have to calculate how much money they spend on the calls on monthly basis now and how many recharges they need in a month and compare the call rates, before they go for a lifetime scheme. So the choice is between high rates and being with the same provider for life or flexibility of choosing the recharge coupons depending upon his/her need.

While the prepaid users are free to make their choice, the ambiguous lifetime plans will also curb their freedom.

As the competition grows, companies will launch many innovative offers. Exciting times are ahead for customers considering BSNL's offer to cut STD rates by about 70 per cent and the introduction of OneIndia tariff (uniform tariff across India) this year. So here's looking forward to talking for a lifetime without worrying about the bills!

Article

The 3rd century Roman Catholic church concocted the Council of Nicea
for the purpose of turning Christianity into a moneymaking business.
.
Thus, came all their tall hats, pompous men in fancy costumes
swinging pots of burning incense, and at least 40 fictional "saints"
which they literally invented for people to worship and pray to, so
they could cause them to be willing to purchase medals, statues,
trinkets, and various other pieces of extremely high profit junk it
claimed was related to the "saints" which they had literally invented
for the sole purpose of making money.
.
As part of this demonic scheme, the Roman GOVERNMENT kidnapped
Ignatius, who was at the time the Bishop of Antioch, TURKEY, who, in
his Second Epistle to the Church of Antioch condemned the very idea
of the "trinity doctrine" as being proposed by ministers of SATAN.
They had Roman soldiers literally drag him kicking and screaming all
the way to Rome, then coerced him to become the first POPE of what
was to be the Roman Catholic church. They told their members he
(Ignatius) was the "true messenger of God", and that they HAD to
listen to, and obey, every word Ignatius said, because HE (Ignatius)
was in fact GOD on earth! Thus, Ignatius became a traitor to all the
things he knew to be a fact, and to all the years he had spent
teaching the "trinity" doctrine to be satanic, so he could become a
worldly known leader of a new but very large church.
.
Thereafter, came the purely legendary, but well known by the church,
to be literally NON EXISTENT, "saint" Christopher. Ole saint Chris,
whom they told people was EIGHTEEN FEET TALL, and had the head of a DOG. The church then declared him to be the "patron" saint of any activity they could come up with, from riding in a boat to crushing watermelons. The church used this "legend" as an excuse to get its members to buy the junk they claimed was in some way related to Ole saint Chris.
.
However, since ancient people had little or no money, having just
one "saint" to purchase related junk about would never make it any
real cash, so the church as well invented FORTY OTHER such "saints" which it then advised its members they had to buy all the junk it claimed was related to THESE so called "saints". Thus, came Mary, Joseph, and these other forty people whom prior to the church's lies and all out fabrications, had nevrer had anything at all to do with the PURPOSE of Christ on earth.

For details on the literal "invention" of Ole "saint" Chris to make
money, you might read the pages at:
http://www.america-in-prophecy.org/INVOLECHRISKKKK.html

***

Warning you in advance that we are fully aware that many who read this page will drop their jaw, and pause for some time, at various points made in the following text, because they cannot in their minds fathom that a church who claims to represent THE MOST HIGH GOD and HIS only Begotten Son, would call meetings and maliciously organize to purposely set out to blatantly LIE to them for the purpose of conning them out of their money, and to deceive their very soul, with no fear of THE MOST HIGH GOD themselves, as they conspire to outright cheat them.
WELL, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG !

The matter we will describe involves the entity known as "Saint" Christopher whom, as a Catholic saint had to be rigorously investigated by the "Cardinals" of the Roman Catholic Church - FOR A PERIOD OF SEVERAL YEARS, just as the entity well known and respected "Mother" Theresa, who in deed devoted her very life to serving the people of India, had to have her entire LIFE investigated by the CARDINALS of the Catholic church of ROME, who's incredibly thorough investigation which literally takes YEARS, must then be scrutinized beyond belief by the POPE himself, before any person can be cannonized (declared to be a saint by the Roman Catholic Church). The process of being declared a "saint" by the Roman Catholic Church therefore takes SEVERAL YEARS, and must pass mustard (muster) by every high official including the POPE. (can't have a hot-dog-headed saint without mustard) (L O L)

So, what you are reading could not have happened by oversight or mistake !
.
Therefore, what we will now document from history COULD NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT ALL, without the entire heirachy of the*ENTIRE*Roman Catholic Church, TO INCLUDE THE POPE, not only KNOWING about it in advance, but purposefully and maliciously conspiring to con its world wide membership out of their money, no matter what lies the Catholic Church later conjured up to try to claim it was an innocent mistake years later, after they ALL got caught RED HANDED doing just exactly that. To Wit:

As we said, the matter described above didn't really "take place" until the advent of the wide use of the automobile in the 1930's and 1940's, when someone in the Catholic Church saw an opportunity for the church to make BILLIONS of dollars. All they had to agree on to do it was for ALL of their heirachy, TO INCLUDE THE POPE, agree to lie through their teeth, which obviously took no time or effort at all, for ALL of them to conspire amongst themselves to do.

So, with nothing but gargantuous dollar signs dancing in their heads, KNOWING THAT OLE "SAINT" CHRIS WAS NOTHING BUT A MYTH, ALL of these Catholic officials had to do, was remind world wide membership that ole saint Christopher had been declared their church's "patron saint" for all travelers, and insist that all Catholics keep one of their often "not so cheap" statues on the dashboard of every car, to obtain ole chris's heavenly blessing, which of course the church, without so much as a guilty conscience, boldly sold BILLIONS of dollars worth to its members, who were being all but coerced to buy one.

But statues of ole saint chris were only a small part of the church's out and out disgraceful, outrageous, and absolutely just plain demonic, "saint" christopher products. Their were "saint" christopher medals, cards, first class relics which the "Holy Roman Catholic Church" itself proudly and quite boldly proclaimed to ME had physically touched ole saint chris himself (for which I myself paid exactly one hundred dollars for the one the church told ME I needed in order to be "safe" while driving my car as a teen), but of course there was yet another ten dollar charge to pay the parish priest for blessing it.

Before we continue, its important to know that this is not a "story" that is being written out of contempt for the Catholic Church, because we as writers HAVE no such contempt. It is instead being written out of the documented facts which recorded HISTORY has well substantiated.

Having said that, and having clearly established that the "Holy Roman Catholic Church" used the MYTH of ole "saint Christopher to literally screw its world-wide members out of BILLIONS of dollars by just plain flat out conspiritorially LYING to them, let's take a little closer LOOK at what the "Holy" Roman Catholic Church knew about ole saint Chris while they were using him to STEAL all these BILLIONS of dollars from their members on a world-wide scale, by LYING to them.

THE WORST HIJACKING

We shall never know the identity of the man who in 1976 made the most
unsuccessful hijack attempt ever. On a flight across America, he rose from
his seat, drew gun and took the stewardess hostage.

"Take me to Detroit," he demanded.

"We're already going to Detroit," she replied.

THE WORST BANK ROBBERY

In August 1975 three men were on their way in to rob the Royal Bank of
Scotland at Rothesay, when they got stuck in the revolving doors. They had
to be helped free by the staff and, after thanking everyone, sheepishly
left the building. A few minutes later they returned and announced their
intention of robbing the bank, but none of the staff believed them.

When they demanded 5,000 pounds in cash, the head cashier laughed at them,
convinced that it was a practical joke. Then one of the men jumped over

tried to make their getaway, but got trapped in the revolving doors again.

THE WORST ANIMAL RESCUE

During the firemen's strike of1978, the British Army had taken over

duty. So grateful was the lady that she invited them all in for tea.
Driving off later, with fond farewells completed, they ran over the cat
and killed it!!

LAWYERS Vs INSURANCE

This is the best lawyer story of the year, decade, and probably the
century.

A Charlotte, NC, lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars,
then insured them against fire among other things. Within a month having
smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having
made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed a
claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the
cigars were lost "in a series of small fires."

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the
man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued .. and
won!

In delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that
the claim was frivolous. The Judge stated, nevertheless, that the lawyer
held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars
were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire,
without defining what is considered to be unacceptable fire, and was
obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal
process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the
lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars lost in the "fires."

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested
on 24 counts of ARSON!!!!

With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being
used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his
insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000
fine.

This is a true story and was the 1st place winner in the recent Criminal
Lawyers Award Contest.
